This section follows the labour process from the very beginning to the birth of the baby. We explain clearly – with the help of drawings and animations – how the baby makes it’s way into the outside world – helping to reduce anxiety and concerns about birth through a greater understanding of exactly what is happening. We explore ways of dealing with the pain of labour, both things that couples can do themselves – e.g. breathing, using different positions – as well as looking at medical forms of pain relief – including epidurals. We explain what may happen if labour doesn’t go straightforwardly – including having a caesarean section – if there is anything out of the ordinary – having twins – or if the baby arrives before there is time to get to hospital! Throughout this section of the DVD we
explore commonly asked questions:

This section aims to give as much information as possible to help new parents adjust to life with their new baby – a springboard into parenthood.
We show how to change a tiny baby’s nappy, how to wash and bath them, even how to pick them up and handle them.
We explore the issues of crying, feeding, sleeping and colic.
Again we look at common concerns – when to see the doctor – and explain normal newborn conditions e.g. spots and rashes.
In addition, we consider the effects on the parents in the postnatal period – providing information on exercise and diet as well as dispelling some myths and worries about postnatal depression.
Throughout the whole video there is valuable input from the range of health professionals who are involved in pregnancy, birth and parenthood. In addition, real parents share their experiences and can give the benefit of their knowledge, personal feelings and advice.

“My children and others persuaded me to ‘have a go’ at writing and presenting this programme. Thanks to the back up of a competent, experienced crew and with help from a team of experts, it seems the results are being perceived as user-friendly, easy to follow and above all useful”. Anne Buckle.
